Reimagining local news with youth
About the event
Local news is in crisis, grappling with challenges such as declining advertising revenues, the dominance of digital platforms, the rise of generative AI, and the spread of disinformation and misinformation, all compounded by eroding public trust. The consequences for communities are profound: reduced civic engagement and weakened accountability and transparency of local authorities and businesses.
Join us for a dynamic workshop exploring the critical role of young journalists in revitalising local news. Partners from the EU-funded YoCoJoIn project will share how the initiative has successfully trained young journalists and connected them with local media in seven European countries.
Key highlights will include:
• Best practices for engaging and empowering young people in community media.
• Hands-on techniques for developing impactful stories and fostering collaboration.
• Insights to ensure the sustainability and vitality of local news for years to come.
