Melissa Chan

Melissa Chan is an Emmy-nominated journalist based between Los Angeles and Berlin. She has reported everywhere from Cuba to Canada, Mongolia to Moscow, North and South Korea. These days she focuses on transnational issues, often involving China’s influence beyond its borders, as well as the rise of global authoritarianism and defense of democracies.
She is co-author of a debut graphic novel, YOU MUST TAKE PART IN REVOLUTION, in collaboration with Chinese Australian artist Badiucao. The work of speculative fiction imagines a fascist U.S. at war with a techno-authoritarian China. Already into its third printing, MS NOW calls it “a salient warning and a welcome addition to the increasingly popular dystopian literary canon in America.”
Melissa Chan has written for The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Washington Post, Time, and more. On camera, she has been a correspondent for VICE News and Al Jazeera English. She currently serves as contributing editor and presenter for DW News.
