How to detect spyware against you

About the event
From journalists to journalists

It’s not paranoia.

Italy is the EU member state which has seen the most recent cases of spyware attacks on journalists in the last year, adding on to physical attacks and continuous political pressure. Whether they are reporting from high-risk conflict zones, small towns, or democratic countries where press freedom is under pressure, journalists consistently face a wide range of digital threats. Hacking, phishing, surveillance and online harassment are only some of them. Participants in the session will get the opportunity to learn the skills and tools they need to detect surveillance against them. This workshop will give them a teaser on how to protect their accounts, devices, communications, and sensitive information using practical tools and strategies. Designed for journalists, freelancers, editors, and media professionals with no prior cybersecurity experience, they will learn to understand and have some basic knowledge in encryption tools.
