Elisa Giomi

Elisa Giomi has been an AGCOM Commissioner since September 2020. She is an Associate Professor of Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes at Roma Tre University, where she teaches Sociology of Communication and Media; Forms of Television Storytelling; and Advertising Communication. She coordinates the Communication and Media module of the Master’s programme in Gender Studies and Policies.

She is the author of over 70 publications for major Italian and international publishing houses and for Italian and international peer-reviewed journals.

Among her most recent publications are: “Real economic dynamics, potential social risks and the benefits of Artificial Intelligence. The testing ground of freedom of expression and information and the regulatory response” in G. Butera, S. Abad (eds.), Manifesto of Contemporary Society. Behaviours, Languages, Human Rights, Artificial Intelligence (2025); “The (almost) unacknowledged revolution of AI in the media and creative industries” (2024); I media oggi. Tecnologie, mercati, profili socio-culturali e risposte normative (2023); and Male and Female Violence in Popular Media (2023).

She has collaborated with the work of the Italian Senate’s Parliamentary Commission of Inquiry on Femicide and All Forms of Gender-Based Violence (18th Legislature).

She is a member of the Scientific Committee of AIRIA (Association for the Regulation of Artificial Intelligence).
