Byron Smith is an award-winning international photographer known for capturing the raw essence of conflict and migration, hoping to show these stories’ echoing impact on the world.

From USA but based in Greece since 2019, he has covered stories from Iraq, Sudan, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. His work has been exhibited across the US and Europe and published by The New York Times, CNN, The Guardian, Le Monde, and Der Spiegel.

His debut photobook, Testament ’22 (Verlag Kettler, 2024), chronicles a 10,000-mile journey through Ukraine during the first year of Russia’s full-scale invasion and won the 2025 Belfast Photo Festival award. Byron Smith was also part of the VII Mentorship Program’s 2023–24 cohort.
