Dr Maja Šimunjak is Associate Professor of Journalism at Middlesex University London and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. She is the author of ‘Managing emotions in journalism: A guide to enhancing resilience’ (Palgrave, 2023) and ‘Tweeting Brexit: Social Media and the Aftermath of the EU Referendum’ (Routledge, 2022).

She has published extensively on the topic of journalists’ emotional labour, developed and run workshops on enhancing emotional intelligence and resilience in media work, and consulted newsrooms on strategies to improve journalists’ well-being, offering insights and solutions to enhance workplace culture and mitigate the effects of online abuse. Šimunjak has worked as a journalist, presenter, and editor in broadcast and print.
