Ukraine’s public service media, Suspilne Ukraine presents Equality Illusion, a film that reveals the experience of Ukraine’s LGBTQ+ community within the military as the Russian invasion continues.

“I am nobody and his body would not have been given to me.”

“I became a disgrace to the family.”

“I was afraid to burn in hell.”

These are the voices of the three main figures in the documentary project — Ukrainian women and men from the LGBTQ+ community — who share their painful stories of daily struggles for basic human rights. The individuals in the film work, volunteer, and serve in the Armed Forces of Ukraine, risking their lives every day like everyone else and deserving the same rights and legal protection.
