Preserving human faces and voices: Pope Leo XIV’s message on communication and AI
About the event
The Message of Pope Leo XIV for the 60th World Day of Social Communications is titled “Preserving Human Voices and Faces”, it focuses on digital communication and artificial intelligence. The Pope highlighted the need to protect human dignity in an age increasingly shaped by technological innovation: “it is up to each of us to raise our voice in defense of human persons, so that we can truly assimilate these tools as allies”.
The Pope identifies responsibility, cooperation, and education as essential pillars of this alliance. He underlines the importance of education in media, information, and artificial intelligence literacy.
“We need faces and voices to speak for people again. We need to cherish the gift of communication as the deepest truth of humanity, to which all technological innovation should also be oriented,” the Pope concludes.
Some of the projects in the Vatican Media have focused specifically on promoting faces and voices from the margins. One of them is the Pentecost Project, a global initiative dedicated to training religious sisters in communication and equipping them to tell the stories from the margins of society.
