EU media regulation and how it (tragically) started
About the event
Explore the critical moment in which the EU launched its legislative efforts against strategic lawsuits against public participation (SLAPP), spurred by the tragic assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. Attendees will gain insights into how EU regulation was shaped by real-world events, the challenges it addresses, and how it impacts media across Europe. Featuring human rights lawyer and former MEP and MP Therese Comodini Cachia, Times of Malta editor-in-chief and playwright Hermann Grech (They Blew Her Up), and investigative journalist Ivan Pandžić (24Sata), this discussion will shed light on the ongoing fight for legal protections for journalists.
The play They Blew Her Up by Herman Grech will be shown at the Festival on 28 February at 07:30 pm, bringing the tragic story of Daphne Caruana Galizia to life through powerful storytelling.
