How do you actually get information out of public authorities? This hands-on session introduces practical FOI and public records tools used in Italy and across Europe, including platforms such as Ask the EU, and shows how journalists — and engaged citizens — can use them to demand accountability.

Participants will learn how to file clear and effective requests, follow up when institutions don’t respond, navigate appeals, and avoid common mistakes that can block access to information. The session focuses on real-world use: turning FOI requests into reporting, investigations, and public-interest stories.
