Building democratic resilience through the European Democracy Shield

Making sense of today’s digital world isn’t always easy. A single post can spark a movement, a viral video can shape public debate, and it’s normal to feel like you need a compass to navigate it all. That compass is media literacy: the ability to question what we see, engage thoughtfully, and take an active role in democratic life. This is also why the European Commission launched the European Democracy Shield.

But promoting media literacy comes with real challenges. In this workshop, we’ll explore why media literacy is a key part of civic education and democratic participation. Through real-life examples, open discussion, and collaborative activities, participants will reflect on how education can help counter disinformation and strengthen democracy in an increasingly complex digital landscape.
