Rethinking humanity in a machine-driven world

Much of the conversation about artificial intelligence is about what it does. This panel asks a more unsettling question: what is it undoing in us?

Deepfakes erode the evidence of our own eyes. Disinformation campaigns have weaponised our innate social wiring, exploiting emotion to bypass reason. The result is not just confusion, but a deep, systemic distrust: a shared inability to agree on what is real, which now powers our bitterest political divisions.

Taking a philosophical and anthropological lens, this session will move beyond the technical specs to examine the human cost. What does it mean for citizenship, identity, and wellbeing when our shared reality is mediated — and manipulated — by machines? How does culture evolve when the stories that bind us can be generated at scale?

This discussion is an investigation into the future of human agency. In a world engineered to capture our attention and shape our perception, what remains of our capacity to choose, to connect, and to trust? It is, ultimately, an invitation to define what we must protect to remain human in a machine-driven world.

Gran parte del dibattito sull’intelligenza artificiale riguarda ciò che fa. Questo panel pone una domanda più inquietante: cosa sta disfacendo in noi?

I deepfake erodono l’evidenza dei nostri stessi occhi. Le campagne di disinformazione hanno trasformato in armi i nostri meccanismi sociali innati, sfruttando le emozioni per aggirare la ragione. Il risultato non è solo confusione, ma una sfiducia profonda e sistemica: un’incapacità condivisa di concordare su ciò che è reale, che oggi alimenta le divisioni politiche più aspre.

Adottando una prospettiva filosofica e antropologica, questa sessione andrà oltre le specifiche tecniche per esaminare il costo umano. Cosa significa per la cittadinanza, l’identità e il benessere quando la nostra realtà condivisa è mediata — e manipolata — dalle macchine? Come evolve la cultura quando le storie che ci uniscono possono essere generate su larga scala?

Questa discussione è un’indagine sul futuro dell’agency umana. In un mondo progettato per catturare la nostra attenzione e modellare la nostra percezione, cosa resta della nostra capacità di scegliere, connetterci e fidarci? È, in ultima analisi, un invito a definire ciò che dobbiamo proteggere per rimanere umani in un mondo guidato dalle macchine.
