Peter Gomez began his career in 1984 at the Verona-based daily newspaper L’Arena. In 1986 he joined Il Giornale, before following its founder Indro Montanelli to La Voce. From 1996 to 2009, he worked as a correspondent for L’Espresso and as a contributor to MicroMega.

In 2009, he was among the founders of Il Fatto Quotidiano, where he has directed the online edition since its launch and, since 2017, has also served as editor of the newspaper’s monthly magazine, FQ Millennium.

A television commentator for Rai and LA7, since October 2017 he has hosted the programme La confessione on the Nove channel, in which he interviews well-known public figures. In September 2019, he also presented two television investigative reports on the worlds of drugs and pornography, titled Enjoy. During the 2019–2020 season, again on Nove, he hosted the daily current affairs and in-depth programme Sono le venti.

Since 29 March 2025, he has hosted Un alieno in patria in the early prime-time slot on Rai 3.
