Antonio Bellia

With a degree in psychology, Antonio Bellia made his directorial debut in 1997 with the documentary “Peppino Impastato: storia di un siciliano libero” (Peppino Impastato: Story of a Free Sicilian). In 2018, he won the “Nastro d’Argento” award for the docu-fiction La Corsa de l’Ora, which he wrote and directed.

He has made over 20 documentaries and has collaborated with major European TV stations (Rai, Sky, Netflix, Arté, ZDF). He recently directed a documentary TV series on the history of the relationship between the Church and the Mafia entitled “Oltre le Ombre” (Beyond the Shadows) and a documentary film entitled Chiesa Nostra (Our Church). In 2025, Antonio Bellia was nominated for a “Nastri d’Argento” award in the Cinema del Reale section. Since 2009, he has been the artistic director of the SiciliAmbiente Film Festival in San Vito Lo Capo, which he also founded.
