Imogen Bayley

Dr. Imogen Bayley is a Max Weber Postdoctoral Fellow at the School of Transnational Governance at the European University Institute. Her research examines how expertise operates under political pressure and how knowledge is taken up within policymaking processes. She studies advisory systems and the institutional conditions that shape the authority and legitimacy of evidence in democratic settings.

Her academic trajectory has been shaped by working in institutions facing sustained political contestation, including during her PhD at Central European University at the time of its forced relocation from Hungary. These experiences inform her current work on the politics of expertise, institutional resilience, and the public role of scholars. Alongside her research, she contributes to debates on science-for-policy and reflects critically on the infrastructures connecting academia, journalism, and democratic governance.
