Vicky Hristova is a Bulgarian non-binary journalist currently working for Deutsche Welle (DW). They amplify the voices of those who are often misrepresented in the media – people with disabilities, neurodivergent people and LGBTQ+ people.
Vicky hosts DW’s Freaks No More! – a video podcast show debunking myths about visible and invisible disabilities. Vicky also produces short documentaries across Europe for ENTR – a pan-European project with DW and France24.
In 2024, they were recognized with a ‘Remarkable Youth’ Award for their work on inclusion at the Voices European Festival of Journalism and Media Literacy. As part of their work, Vicky educates journalists and media professionals on the importance of representing disability and using sensitive language.
They have done appearances on TEDx and have been a trainer at the Youth4Regions European Commission program. Previously, Vicky led UK-wide coverage of top science stories, including the first image of the black hole in the center of our galaxy, as a press officer with UKRI, a UK-government body.
Vicky has a Master’s degree in Cell Biology from University College London (UCL) and has been a youth delegate in various programmes from the Council of Europe in Strasbourg and the European Commission in Brussels.
