Ivan Pandžić is a journalist who has been working for Croatia’s leading daily, 24sata, for 13 years. Over his 23-year career, he has written for Večernji list, Nacional, and Poslovni dnevnik. He is the recipient of the Croatian Journalists’ Association’s Journalist of the Year award, as well as the HND Jasna Babić Award for Investigative Journalist of the Year. He has also undergone training with Reuters experts. Covering political and economic topics, his reporting has led to the resignation of officials and changes in legislation. He has personally faced multiple SLAPP lawsuits in Croatian courts and is well acquainted with the judiciary’s shortcomings in handling serial lawsuits designed to intimidate journalists and obstruct further reporting. He has participated in a working group and a series of workshops aimed at reforming regulations on SLAPP lawsuits. At the Voices panel he is taking part in, he will share his experiences, discuss the simple legal changes needed to protect journalists, and explain why the government is reluctant to implement them.
