Citizen-powered investigations
About the event
Europe’s shrinking space for independent media
How do journalists continue uncovering the truth when access is limited, whether because of repression, conflict, or simply the disappearance of local media? From news deserts to authoritarian states, the absence of professional reporters has fueled a rise in citizen-powered investigations. These collaborations between reporters and citizens have become essential to surface stories that would otherwise remain hidden.
This interactive workshop explores creative, safe, and impactful ways of working with citizens in any underreported environment. Participants will examine how professional journalists work with citizens in places where local media has disappeared, where only a single reporter remains, or where journalists have had to go into exile.
