Idomeni, ten years on: Stories left behind
About the event
Idomeni is a small border village in Greece whose name has carried the weight of migration for over a century. In early 2016, it became the site of the largest makeshift refugee camp in Europe, sheltering more than 14.000 displaced people at its peak.
Ten years later, this session revisits Idomeni through the people who lived and reported on it.
The first part of this session will bring together journalists who covered the crisis to reflect on what was learned and what has since been forgotten, and discuss questions of ethics in reporting on displacement, and why migration coverage is fading from today’s news agenda. The second part will then reunite journalists with migrants they reported on a decade.
Our speaker lineup is still growing. More names will be announced soon.
