Goran Penić
Goran is the president of the Association for Journalist Copyright Protection (DZNAP) and a political journalist at Jutarnji list, Croatia’s largest daily newspaper, where he has worked for the past 17 years. Born in Split in 1983, he completed his education at a language high school before earning a journalism degree from the Faculty of Croatian Studies at the University of Zagreb. He was elected DZNAP president a little over a year ago at the association’s assembly.
He is also a member of the Croatian Journalists’ Association and the Croatian Journalists’ Union. Founded in November 2007, DZNAP was established to protect journalists’ copyrights collectively. Its goals include bringing together author-journalists, safeguarding journalistic copyrights, advocating for shared professional interests, and improving the social and financial status of journalists and photojournalists. Copyright compensation funds are collected from press clipping agencies, and starting this year, they will also be sourced from public lending rights, the blank tape levy, and online platform usage of copyrighted content. In an era of digital transformation, where authors’ rights are increasingly overlooked or violated, DZNAP plays a crucial role in protecting journalists’ copyrights in Croatia.
