Belén López Garrido

Belén López Garrido is an Editorial Manager at the European Broadcasting Union, Europe’s largest association of public service media. A graduate of Columbia University’s School of Journalism, she has worked as a reporter and editor in the United States and Europe for over 25 years. A native of Galicia, in Spain, she started her career as reporter in Madrid and later US correspondent and producer. She is now based in Geneva, Switzerland, where she heads the EBU Investigative Journalism Network. The group, formed by dozens of investigative reporters and editors of public service newsrooms across Europe, has coordinated several, cross-border investigations on topics like the Russia’s actions in occupied Ukraine, including the forcible transfer of Ukrainian children into Russia, the financial ownership structures of football teams in Europe, the increase of hybrid attacks in the continent and more recently the implications for public health of the overselling of sperm donations in Europe. The investigations were republished by dozens of news organizations in Europe and beyond and have been nominated for several international journalism awards. Belén also works in innovation and AI-related projects in the News Strategy department of the EBU and is fluent in four languages.
