Mara Tamkovich

Mara Tamkovich is a Polish-Belarusian screenwriter and director. Born in Minsk, Belarus, she studied journalism at Warsaw University and film directing at Warsaw Film School. She is also a graduate of Studio Prób at the Wajda School.

For nearly a decade, she worked as a journalist for independent Belarusian media broadcasting from Poland. Her films, which focus on socially relevant topics deeply rooted in reality, have been showcased at numerous festivals in Poland and abroad, earning over 20 awards at events such as the Chicago International Film Festival, Torino Film Festival, Minsk International Film Festival, and FEST – New Directions | New Films Festival.

Her debut feature, Under the Grey Sky, premiered at the Tribeca Festival and won the Best Debut Award at the Polish Film Festival in Gdynia.

Mara is a member of the Polish Directors’ Guild and the Belarusian Independent Film Academy.
